Local celeb debuts laksa bak kwa, proceeds benefit special needs children

Do you love bak kwa? Do you want to feel good about eating bak kwa? Local actress, Rui En, is debuting a line of bak kwa under her new brand, En. En’s focus is “To give rather than to receive, to love rather than to be loved”. According to Rui En, “Chinese New Year is a time of reunion and love. We wanted to create a meaningful gift that embodies the true spirit of the season– one that not only brings joy to those who receive it, but also gives back to the community.” Credit – EN En is offering 2 distinctive flavours of bak kwa this Chinese New Year: Laksa Bak Kwa (S$88 for 500g), and Applewood Bak Kwa (S$98 for 500g). This venture is Rui En’s first foray into entrepreneurship, and she chose bak kwa as it’s her favourite Chinese New Year snack. Credit – EN En’s Laksa Bak Kwa is the first of its kind, blending the natural smoky sweetness characteristic of bak kwa with the iconic spiced flavour of laksa. It is slightly spicy and fragrant, with the sweetness of the bak kwa leading before giving way to the nuanced flavour and fragrance of laksa leaf. The Applewood Bak Kwa is marinated using a secret recipe steeped in tradition, and smoked for at least 2 hours with applewood imported specially from the United States. This slow-smoking process imparts a rich barbecued flavour, and the result is a palate-pleasing tender and satisfying treat. Credit – EN Preorders for the bak kwa will start from 3 Jan 2025, 9pm at www.enonline.sg. Delivery is free for purchases of 2 boxes or more. Proceeds from the sale will go towards Brave Club, which is a faith-based initiative dedicated to supporting children with special needs and their families by conducting activities for community and social support. Singapore’s Mediacorp Launches IP Testbed Facility

Mediacorp’s IP Testbed Facility. Singapore (December 16, 2024)—Mediacorp, Singapore’s largest media conglomerate, is continuing its move towards an IP-based infrastructure with the implementation of Lawo’s broadcast technology. Mediacorp, which operates a range of television channels, radio stations, and digital platforms, is using its alternative broadcast center (BBTC) as a testbed for full IP redundancy as part of its strategic upgrade of its main campus at One North. Lawo’s solution links four studios to the master control room (MCR). The MCR is powered by two fully redundant Lawo Power Core units, providing routing and DSP capabilities. Each Power Core is connected via fiber to AIOX (Audio I/O Extender) units, providing high-capacity audio I/O across the network. The redundant media network provides continuous operations with automatic failover protection. In the studio setup, each of the four studios is equipped with a 12-fader diamond broadcast console. Radio New Zealand Upgrades Live Recording Capabilities VisTool, Lawo’s virtual radio studio control environment, gives engineers visibility and control over the entire system from a single interface. Its design allows for real-time monitoring and management of the Power Core units. The AIOX extenders bring additional benefits by significantly reducing the footprint and power consumption of the installation. BCI, the systems integrator for this project, reportedly played a role in overseeing the implementation and configuration of the new system.

Richie Koh gets special treatment in drama series as he plays the main lead, says co-star Cavin Soh

SINGAPORE: In an episode of the entertainment show #JustSwipeLah, the cast of Mediacorp’s newest drama, Cash on Delivery, spoke about their experience with special training programmes to prepare for their roles. Also present in the show were artists Cavin Soh, Richie Koh, He Yingying, and Jernelle Oh. Jernelle, who needs to use a wheelchair in the drama because her character has cerebral palsy, shared: “I tried going to the toilet and opening the door by myself.. I realized that many doors were too small and not suitable for my wheelchair to enter and exit.” More so, Cavin Soh admitted: “Actually, I protested to the producer, because I believe my character should be riding a motorcycle. However, the motorcycle was given to Richie Koh.” Soh added: “The producers told me it’s because he’s the male lead and I’m the supporting actor.” With this, he accepted that he had to ride a bicycle instead. Speaking of motorcycles and bicycles, the Soh was able to experience the job of delivery riders first-hand. Soh remarked: “I used to think delivery riders just needed to cycle from here to there, and if I needed to pay them $8, that was too expensive.. But when we really tried and experienced delivering food, it’s actually not easy.” To jokingly reply to Cavin, the host of the show, Juin Teh, stated that it is difficult to deliver food because he was using a bicycle. “Yes, because I’m a supporting cast member and the supporting actor needs to use bicycles while the lead actor gets to use motorcycles,” he protested.
